HTC One – 1080p Display, Snapdragon 600 and UltraPixel Sensor

HTC has already made their name for Android phones with stronger hardware muscle. They proved that with HTC One X and many other handsets. In year 2013 they have done it again. Putting end to all the rumors, leaks and hypes they officially release the HTC One wrapped up with latest and greatest hardware. Let’s go and take a look how it might change the path of Android.

Insight for HTC One

Design

Dimensions: 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm

Weight: 143 g

One of the major complaints against Android phones was poor built quality. Yes, most of the popular Android handset has cheap plastic body. HTC one has changed that with aluminum uni-body with solid construction. Thickness and weight is also in a good balance point.

Display

Size: 4.7 inches

Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 2

Technology: Super LCD3

Resolution: 1080×1920 px

Sharpness: 469 ppi

We have seen many 1080p Smartphone already such as HTC Droid DNA and Oppo Find 5. But all of those have 5 inch display which might be little too big for many people.  Now you can enjoy 1080p resolution in perfectly sized 4.7 inches display with HTC One.

Processor and Storage

Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T)

CPU: 1.7 GHz // Quad Core // Krait 300

GPU: Adreno 320

RAM: 2 GB

Internal Storage: 32/64 GB

Expandable Storage: No

This is the first device to feature latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 platform. Spec is pretty similar to other same level phones except Krait 300 CPU architecture.

We have seen that last generation Krait processors kicked off Cortex A9 CPUs in benchmark test. This is time for them to compete with Cortex A15 CPUs. I think Krait 300 (40% faster than previous) will have a good chance there as well.

HTC One scored amazing 12500 in Quadrant benchmark test. Nexus 4 with Snapdragon S4 Pro, 1,5 GHz Quad core Krait CPU scored only around 5000. You can figure out the improvement in Krait 300 architecture.

Software

OS: Androdi 4.1.2

UI: HTC Sense 5

This comes with latest HTC Sense UI 5 with blink feed and Zoe. I’m a big fan of pure Android. But I have to admit that HTC sense embed many important features in to UI rather than just a fancy face.

Camera

Primary: 4 MP // LED Flash // HDR // 1080p@30fps, HDR

Front Facing: 2.1 MP // 1080p@30fps, HDR

This looks kind a weird, a 4 MP camera. But what they have tried is to include large image sensor (1/3 inches) with lesser number of pixels to make images less noisy in low light conditions. This seems like a wise move. And they have included perfectly functioning HDR video recording as well.

Connectivity

Mobile Network: GSM // HSDPA // LTE

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n

GPS: A-GPS // GLONASS

NFC: Yes

Bluetooth: 4.0

USB: microUSB 2.0

The usual list of connectivity technology + Wi-Fi ac. There is nothing else to ask for.

Battery Life

Type: Li-Po

Capacity: 2300 mAh

Battery Life: n/a

Li-Po batteries are durable than Li-Ion, but over charge may lead to bursting. But nothing to worry about, there is a protection circuit right in the battery. And yeah, it’s a big battery, so you can expect good battery life.

Wrapping Up

This is the only choice if you are looking for 4.7 inches Smartphone with 1080p display. Snapdragon 600 with Krait 300 CPU completes the picture with amazing hardware power. HTC sense also would add color to this handset. No doubt that this is a path breaking Android handset.
