What Is Adobe Creative Cloud?

Adobe Creative Suite is the most popular media creation package without any doubt. I’m using Adobe Photoshop with Camera RAW plug-in to edit my photographs, Adobe Premier and After Effects to edit my videos.

The news is Adobe is discontinuing Creative Suite package. CS 6 is the last version of the series. Wait, WHAT? Are they shutting down THE media creation package forever?

Not exactly! Replacing CS6 they are introducing Adobe CC, creative cloud with lot more cool features. Let’s go and take a closer look.

What’s New in Adobe Creative Cloud?

With Creative Cloud Adobe will stop selling conventional serial keys. Instead, you have to sign up for subscription based service. As usual you can download the applications and use them in any supported devices.

There are few minor updates for application (Click here to see them) in CC, but that is not the magic here. With the subscription you are getting 20 GB of cloud storage space. There you can store all your projects, files and even application settings. In other words where ever you go, you have your personalized Adobe CC. In addition you can create different folders with permission, share files with your colleagues, collaborative editing, even share your work with Adobe community and get feedback.

Why Adobe Came Up With Creative Cloud?

You must have already figured out that Creative Cloud is not about applications or updated features. After all Adobe doesn’t have significant competition in the market. It’s about a new way of receiving payment from application users.

During the time they were selling serial keys, only few days after official launch Adobe master collection is all over file sharing and BitTorrent sites. This is very bad for Adobe’s business. They are putting a lot of effort and money in to application development, so they need a strategy to stabilize their income.

Not only Adobe, Microsoft, AutoDesk and many other software giants are considering dropping serial key based software sales and moving to subscription based system. I believe this is an important move in the fight against software piracy.

To start with, you can sign up for Adobe CC 30 day trial and update your existing apps through application manager. Click here to see entire membership plans.
