Samsung Galaxy S IV Get Pure Android

In last week the big news in tech world was Google I/O. Lots of people were expecting a new version of android there as well as next generation Nexus 7. But it was about new APIs, Desktop voice search, Google maps and many other developer tools.

Out of all those my favorite was Samsung Galaxy S IV with pure android. This is kind of an unexpected and a weird move for Google as well as Samsung. This is something worth discussing about. Let’s go!

galaxy-s-iv-get-pure-android-6906354

Pros and Cons of Nexus Experience Galaxy S IV

When Samsung release Galaxy S IV it was a loaded with lots of software gimmicks beyond Android. Practically they have modified the Android OS to a level you can’t call it Android anymore. Samsung spent hours and hours to demonstrate different applications that comes pre installed with Galaxy S IV. It comes with lightning fast processor, GPU, RAM and all the hardware goodness you can imagine of.

The Nexus 4 has previous generation Snapdragon S4 pro platform and 720p display. But it has the latest software pushed directly from Google. Due to this it could perform even faster than devices with latest hardware.

Nexus experience Galaxy S IV is combining the power of latest pure Android as well as stronger hardware platform. Good news is, it will get the Android updates parallel to other Nexus devices. You can call this the “Super Nexus”, the most powerful Nexus device available.

If you take a look in to the dark side, you will miss all the Samsung software goodness such as dual shot camera, drama shot, Knox framework and many more. Actually the advantage of S IV over S III is this software goodness. Without that might be only a stronger muscle. After all it’s not a true Nexus experience. Still it has physical capacitive buttons, not on screen buttons.

Finally

As I mentioned before, this is kinda weird move. I agree to the fact that this will be THE most powerful Nexus experience device with latest hardware and timely updated OS.

When you think about Samsung’s point of view, they don’t really have any market advantage, since it will be sold directly through Google Play. And it won’t be loaded with Samsung software as they demonstrated in launch.

In Google point of view, yes they have a Nexus device with stronger hardware with timely update enabled pure Android. I have a question however, is this the end of official Nexus line? Or is this only filling the time gap till next Nexus comes?

You can join the discussion in the comment section below and tell me how you feel about this. What would you prefer, Nexus S IV or original S IV?

What Is Adobe Creative Cloud?

Adobe Creative Suite is the most popular media creation package without any doubt. I’m using Adobe Photoshop with Camera RAW plug-in to edit my photographs, Adobe Premier and After Effects to edit my videos.

The news is Adobe is discontinuing Creative Suite package. CS 6 is the last version of the series. Wait, WHAT? Are they shutting down THE media creation package forever?

Not exactly! Replacing CS6 they are introducing Adobe CC, creative cloud with lot more cool features. Let’s go and take a closer look.

what-is-adobe-creative-cloud-1272214

What’s New in Adobe Creative Cloud?

With Creative Cloud Adobe will stop selling conventional serial keys. Instead, you have to sign up for subscription based service. As usual you can download the applications and use them in any supported devices.

There are few minor updates for application (Click here to see them) in CC, but that is not the magic here. With the subscription you are getting 20 GB of cloud storage space. There you can store all your projects, files and even application settings. In other words where ever you go, you have your personalized Adobe CC. In addition you can create different folders with permission, share files with your colleagues, collaborative editing, even share your work with Adobe community and get feedback.

Why Adobe Came Up With Creative Cloud?

You must have already figured out that Creative Cloud is not about applications or updated features. After all Adobe doesn’t have significant competition in the market. It’s about a new way of receiving payment from application users.

During the time they were selling serial keys, only few days after official launch Adobe master collection is all over file sharing and BitTorrent sites. This is very bad for Adobe’s business. They are putting a lot of effort and money in to application development, so they need a strategy to stabilize their income.

Not only Adobe, Microsoft, AutoDesk and many other software giants are considering dropping serial key based software sales and moving to subscription based system. I believe this is an important move in the fight against software piracy.

To start with, you can sign up for Adobe CC 30 day trial and update your existing apps through application manager. Click here to see entire membership plans.

Subscribe to new Adobe CC and share how you feel about it as a comment below.

HTC 8X – Windows Smartphone

In a previous post I was talking about Windows Phone 8 device line up. There I specially mentioned about two major manufactures, Nokia and HTC and had a discussion about Nokia Lumia 920. Today I’m going to take a closer look in to HTC Windows Phone 8X.

Same as Nokia Lumia 920, this device is also coming with unique features. They share many common things as well. Let’s get started with specification highlight.

htc-windows-phone-8x-6794321

Insight for HTC 8X

Design

It’s a single block design with different color options. Most Windows 8 phones are available in different attractive colors. Device thickness is 10.1mm and weight is 130g.

Front panel holds 4.3 display, capacitive buttons and front facing camera. In back panel you can find primary shooter, LED flash and loudspeaker. Top edge has the 3.5 mm audio out while right edge has the volume rocker and shutter button.

htc-windows-phone-8x-design-2234982

Display

The display is 4.3 inch Super LCD panel behind Corning Gorilla Glass 2 with 720x1280px resolution and 342ppi of pixel density. Display size is smaller than Lumia 920 but having the same resolution. The result is super sharp and compact display.

Processor and Storage

All the Windows Phone 8 devices share same hardware platform which is Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus (MSM8960) with 1.5GHz Dual Core Krait CPU and Adreno 225 GPU. RAM is 1GB and internal storage is 16GB non expandable.

Camera

Primary shooter is usual 8MP one with 1080p @30fps video recording and other standard features. But front facing camera is different here. It’s a 2.1MP one which can record 1080p videos. I haven’t noticed a phone with this level of front facing camera. You might be able to use this creatively.

htc-windows-phone-8x-camera-9496517

Connectivity

This comes with standard technologies such as 2G, 3G, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, NFC and microUSB 2.0. You will be able to enjoy LTE as well, but it would depend on your carrier.

Battery Life

Capacity of battery that comes with is 1800 mAh. There are no official records of talk time and I assume it will be same or may be lesser than Nokia Lumia 920.

Wrapping Up

The specs build up a picture of average Smartphone. But HTC 8X has few unique feature. The best thing here is ultra sharp display. It’s sharper than famous retina display in iPhone 5 and even sharper than Nokia Lumia 920 display. Next hook is built-in Beat audio enhancement. Combination of both of this feature would make this a great multimedia device.

htc-windows-phone-8x-beats-audio-2998461

Phone is expected to be release in end of 2012. Hope this will give a good break to Windows Phone 8.

Nokia Lumia 920 – Windows Smartphone

If you take a look at Android and iOS, both are having pretty similar features. Both are inspired by each other and continue to add new features to gain more market territory. While everything is going on like this Windows Phone is walking on a different path.

They have different UI, different way to handle internal functions and different market approach as well. This uniqueness is the key for them to be growing in exponential phase. Windows Phone 8 latest version released sometime ago along with accompanied set of devices. Among them two main manufactures took my attention. They are Nokia and HTC.

Today I’m going to take a look at most advanced Nokia Windows Phone 8 device, Lumia 920.

nokia-lumia-920-6716512

Insight for Nokia Lumia 920

Design

Lumia 920 comes with a single block design with wide range of color choice. Thickness is 10.7mm, not so impressive compared to other competitors. Wight is 185g, again heavy above average. In front panel there is a huge display, capacitive buttons and front facing camera. Back panel is holding camera and LED flash. Edges are clean and right edge has the power button, volume rocker and shutter button.

nokia-lumia-920-design-5154837

Display

The display is 4.5 inch IPS panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 with 768x1280px resolution and 332ppi of pixel density. I like to have a big screen on my Smartphone, but not too big one. 4.5 inch is my personal favorite and good for one hand operations as well. And resolution and sharpness is at its best. It’s definitely a one of best display you can find on a Smartphone.

Processor and Storage

Windows Phone 8 is using consistent hardware configuration throughout their accompanied handset line and they have made the right choice. Lumia 920 powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus (MSM8960) platform with 1.5 GHz Dual Core Krait CPU and Adreno 225 GPU.

I would not call it a powerhouse since there are plenty of Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad Core handsets on the market. But even Windows Phone 7 had a great level of performance optimization, smooth operations and fluid touch. So I believe this would be a good platform for Windows Phone to work with.

RAM is 1GB and internal storage is 32GB non expandable, pretty much standard configuration.

Camera

Primary shooter is 8MP one with 1080p@30fps video recording, dual LED flash and other standard features. Secondary camera is 1.3MP for video calling.

One thing I love about shooters in Nokia is Carl Zeiss Optics. My old school Nokia N85 could capture great snaps with excellent quality.

nokia-lumia-920-camera-4543002

Connectivity

It has all the standard connectivity technologies such as 2G, 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 3.1, NFC, GPS and microUSB 2.0. The device comes with LTE radio and it would depend on your carrier.

Battery Life

Device holds a 2000mAH Li-Ion battery which will give it up to 10h 3G talk time. With Snapdragon Dual core platform and IPS display this device is supposed to have a decent battery life.

Wireless charging is a hot topic in Smartphone world these days. Nokia Lumia has wireless charging off the shelf. You don’t have to go through the hassle of purchasing special batteries.

Wrapping Up

Nokia Lumia 920 is a great device of course. It might not be excellent in hardware specification, but with Windows Phone 8 it will be able to do magic. It’s not only a fancy face with metro UI, there are lot more interesting features wrapped in such as City Lens.

Device thickness and weight is above average and it would be one major drawback for it to compete with devices from other platforms. Apart from that built quality is decent and has used good materials.

However I have no clear justification to leave iOS or Android and go for Windows Phone. But I can’t deny the fact that they are growing so fast and offering incomparable unique features. Will it be able to beat Android and iOS? The answer is in future may be with Nokia Lumia 920.

Asus Transformer 700 Infinity – More Power and 1080p Display

Couple of week ago Asus introduced their Asus Transformer Pad 300 and it became the center of attraction in the Android world. It has solved the major problems which were there in previous Eee Pad Transformer prime, mainly Wi-fi and GPS signal issues.

The best part is Asus devices are giving you the pure android experience, unlink heavily themed Samsung devices. Therefore Asus devices are having relatively smooth operation and minimum touch lag. Transformer pad came with 1.2 GHz quad core CPU and they have no plans to stop there.

asus-transformer-700-infinity-7697582

Quick Catch-up

  •  Asus Transformer Pad 300 – Budget and Features Balance Point in a Tablet

The big brother of Transformer Pad 300 is coming with the name Transformer Pad 700 infinity with full HD display and quad core CPU. Today it’s under spot light of Notes Of Genius.

Hardware Configuration

Processor and Storage

Processor is one the major plus point in this device and I have never seen such a powerful CPU coming with any other tablet in the market. It’s powered with 1.6 GHz Quad Core Cortex-A9 processor. This is nearly powerful as a home use Desktop. This is running on famous Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset along with GeForce GPU.

When it comes to storage the device is having 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 32/64GB internal storage. If you feel like you need more storage, you are not restricted. You can easily expand it with microSD slot up to 32GB.

Operating System

Transformer Infinity is coming Android 4.0.3 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. The best part here is same as with Transformer Pad 300, this device is also giving you pure android experience. Asus have only included few built in applications and widgets.

Display

This is the world’s very first Quad Core tablet which comes with Full HD display. Its 10.1 inch display with resolution 1920 x 1200 which gives you 224 ppi pixel density. This display is IPS+ display same as transformer Prime and it will give good outdoor viewing performance.

display-8786423

Connectivity

The version I was talking here which comes with Nvidia Tragra 3 chipset doesn’t support 3G or LTE connectivity. Yet this comes with all the other standard connectivity features such as Wi-fi, Bluetooth and USB interface. In addition this support wi-fi direct and wi-fi hotspot as well.

Camera

The devices comes with 8MP wide aperture f/2.2 camera with LED flash and auto focus. Secondary camera is 2MP and optimized for video chat. The video capturing capabilities are still not clear yet we can expect 1080p video recording and 30FSP same as with most of the other high end tablets.

Battery Life

There is a Li-polymer battery which can power this up for 10h under normal usage. The beauty in Asus Tables, they come with physical QUERT keyboard dock. It’s having additional battery power. Transformer Infinity will get extra 6h of battery life with the dock which make all together 16 hours.

keyboard-dock-2713609

Target Users

After reading specification you will figure out that this is way advance device for most of the average users. For most of the average users Transformer 300 would be a good choice. But if you are a heavy mobile gamer or if you are using your tablet for graphic designing work this might be a good choice for you.

Wrapping Up

The android world is getting bigger and bigger day by day with the contribution of lots of hardware manufactures. Asus is one the major contributor to get it up to this level. They came up with first quad core tablet, first quad core LTE tablet and here with Transformer infinity, first quad core Full HD tablet as well.

If you need 3G and LTE connectivity with this device you have to compromise the quad core processor and Nvidia Tegra 3 Chipset. So the best solution is get a Wi-fi tablet with this configuration and use it with Mi-fi router.

Quick Catch-up

  • Make Your iPad Wi Fi an iPad 3G

Personally I believe that this device is too good for average users, most of the time they use the tablet to go to Facebook or Twitter, update status or upload images, check mails and play few games etc. With this amazing hardware muscle this can do much more such as graphic designing and heavy 3D gaming.

Asus offer you two great choices and pick one intelligently.

HTC One – 1080p Display, Snapdragon 600 and UltraPixel Sensor

HTC has already made their name for Android phones with stronger hardware muscle. They proved that with HTC One X and many other handsets. In year 2013 they have done it again. Putting end to all the rumors, leaks and hypes they officially release the HTC One wrapped up with latest and greatest hardware. Let’s go and take a look how it might change the path of Android.

htc-one-1080p-display-snapdragon-600-and-ultrapixel-sensor-7580385

Insight for HTC One

Design

Dimensions: 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm

Weight: 143 g

One of the major complaints against Android phones was poor built quality. Yes, most of the popular Android handset has cheap plastic body. HTC one has changed that with aluminum uni-body with solid construction. Thickness and weight is also in a good balance point.

Display

Size: 4.7 inches

Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 2

Technology: Super LCD3

Resolution: 1080×1920 px

Sharpness: 469 ppi

We have seen many 1080p Smartphone already such as HTC Droid DNA and Oppo Find 5. But all of those have 5 inch display which might be little too big for many people.  Now you can enjoy 1080p resolution in perfectly sized 4.7 inches display with HTC One.

Processor and Storage

Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T)

CPU: 1.7 GHz // Quad Core // Krait 300

GPU: Adreno 320

RAM: 2 GB

Internal Storage: 32/64 GB

Expandable Storage: No

This is the first device to feature latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 platform. Spec is pretty similar to other same level phones except Krait 300 CPU architecture.

We have seen that last generation Krait processors kicked off Cortex A9 CPUs in benchmark test. This is time for them to compete with Cortex A15 CPUs. I think Krait 300 (40% faster than previous) will have a good chance there as well.

HTC One scored amazing 12500 in Quadrant benchmark test. Nexus 4 with Snapdragon S4 Pro, 1,5 GHz Quad core Krait CPU scored only around 5000. You can figure out the improvement in Krait 300 architecture.

Software

OS: Androdi 4.1.2

UI: HTC Sense 5

This comes with latest HTC Sense UI 5 with blink feed and Zoe. I’m a big fan of pure Android. But I have to admit that HTC sense embed many important features in to UI rather than just a fancy face.

Camera

Primary: 4 MP // LED Flash // HDR // 1080p@30fps, HDR

Front Facing: 2.1 MP // 1080p@30fps, HDR

This looks kind a weird, a 4 MP camera. But what they have tried is to include large image sensor (1/3 inches) with lesser number of pixels to make images less noisy in low light conditions. This seems like a wise move. And they have included perfectly functioning HDR video recording as well.

Connectivity

Mobile Network: GSM // HSDPA // LTE

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n

GPS: A-GPS // GLONASS

NFC: Yes

Bluetooth: 4.0

USB: microUSB 2.0

The usual list of connectivity technology + Wi-Fi ac. There is nothing else to ask for.

Battery Life

Type: Li-Po

Capacity: 2300 mAh

Battery Life: n/a

Li-Po batteries are durable than Li-Ion, but over charge may lead to bursting. But nothing to worry about, there is a protection circuit right in the battery. And yeah, it’s a big battery, so you can expect good battery life.

Wrapping Up

This is the only choice if you are looking for 4.7 inches Smartphone with 1080p display. Snapdragon 600 with Krait 300 CPU completes the picture with amazing hardware power. HTC sense also would add color to this handset. No doubt that this is a path breaking Android handset.

Is Your Company Safe From Online Security Threats?

This might sound like quite a simple question with a very straight forward answer, but this is in fact a very complex question with an even more complex answer.

There has been such rapid advancement in the technology arena, especially when it comes to the Internet, that legacy web based applications could be at the risk of hackers, without the knowledge of the technology support teams. It is also a fact that security design aspects are sometimes overlooked during the technical specification phases of big software projects. Product owners assume in most cases that the technical teams will focus on the non-functional requirements (e.g. security model) while they code the solution. This however rarely happens, if it is not clearly specified in the Technical Specification documentation.

is-your-company-safe-from-online-security-threats-6316218

It is very important for any software development department who are developing web based software to ensure firstly that the developers are knowledgeable in WRT software web vulnerabilities and secondly that the necessary tools are available to audit code produced by the software development teams on a continuous basis. It is very difficult for a human to test and look for vulnerabilities on all code paths, which necessitates the need for automated tools.

There are many software vendors on the web, marketing software audit tools. It is however critical to ensure that the tool and software vendor selected, has got a track record and adheres to certain industry standards. The audit software has to at least be aware of the following industry standards.

  • Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS):  This standard is owned by VISA and all companies operating in the card processing industry has to comply with this standard.
  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act):  Standard for companies operating in health care industry.
  • MISRA C: Standard for the C language for companies developing software in the Motor industry.
  • Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP): It is a Non-profit organization which focuses mainly on the improvement of software security.

The software should also be able to audit the code of various software languages. It should at a minimum be able to handle the following languages:

  • C#.net up to framework 4.5
  • Java
  • PHPs
  • C
  • C++
  • VB.net up to framework 4.5
  • Visual Basic 6.0
  • JavaScript
  • Flash
  • ASP
  • Perl

The critical fact to admit, for any business owner with an in-house development team, is that developers can and will introduce undetected software flaws into applications that can put the organization at risk. It is therefore of the utmost importance to have the necessary software to assist the development teams and protect the business.

One respected software vendor, Checkmarx.com (described by the Gartner group as Visionary), adheres to all of the above requirements. This company provides static code analysis tools to firstly locate technical and logical flaws and then manage the necessary rectifying action. This is all accomplished from screening the software produced by developers on a continuous basis as part of software development life cycle (SDLC). The software integrates flawlessly into the integrated development environments of the various supported languages, providing the necessary feedback and information to developers, auditors etc.

Apple iPhone 5 – Bigger Member in Family

For several months there was lots of leaks, rumors and predictions about Apple’s next iPhone. Apple is always good at making news as well as phones. Finally they released the new device with the name “iPhone 5” on 12th September in San Francisco. Lots of Apple fans were sitting in front of computers and plugged in to social media and live blogs to know what’s new in next iPhone.

Few months ago I was talking about possible shape of forthcoming iPhone 5. As usual I was trying to filter out rumors, predict what could be there adding my own expectations as well.

Surprisingly iPhone 5 was pretty similar as explained by leaks, rumors and predictions. Let’s take a closer look at its attractions and disappointments.

apple-iphone-5-bigger-member-in-family-3582466

Attractions

Major attraction in iPhone 5 is its built quality. It was common to whole iPhone line since 2007. This time they have taken it to the next level. It’s having fully aluminum body and glass front. It’s thinner, only 7.6mm, taller yet same width as previous one. They have reduced the volume of iPhone 5 by 20% and reduced the weight to 122g.

Finally Apple has increased the display size to 4 inches and resolution is 1136 x 640 px which will give it 326 ppi of pixel density. Retina display continues. It’s brighter, 500 cd/m2 and having better color saturation and contrast than before. Camera specification is same as before, but camera software has been upgraded. Now you can capture panoramic images and record 720p video with front facing face time camera.

Chip is upgraded to Apple A6 and Storage options are same as before, it’s 16/32/64 GB. But they have increased RAM to 1GB, a wise move. A new connector is there named Lightning instead of previous 30 pin connector.

Though it’s too late, they have included LTE radio in iPhone 5 and now you will be able to enjoy super speedy connectivity in all major carriers. The whole hardware system is powered with Apple’s latest iOS 6. According to specification they have improved the battery life as well.

Disappointments

Most of the competitors introduced Smartphone with 720p displays, but still Apple could not come up with such. Even in new iPhone 5, display is still nearly HD ready. Adding another line of icons is not what users need. They need high resolution displays. This could be one major minus point to iPhone in the market. Further it doesn’t have NFC, a popular trend. So iPhone 5 users will miss the fun of tap to transfer.

Wrapping Up

iPhone 5 is manly competing with Android Smartphone in market. When it comes to built quality almost all of Android phones are way behind. Further iPhone 5’s software and hardware systems developed under one hood, so they are highly optimized and compatible. But when it comes to features, it’s not the case. Most of the new features in iOS 6 and iPhone 5 were there in Android Smartphone for years. So there’s going to be tough competition.

Top of all, Apple has managed to build up loyal customer base for years. So there are millions of people out there willing to buy their products. Most of the Android Smartphone manufactures doen’t have this advantage. Proving this the first batch of iPhone 5 which were open for pre order were sold out within record breaking one hour.

Story of Smartphone war continues, more exceptional gadgets will be resulted. Subscribe to our Feedburner newsletter and stay tuned.

SoC Cold War – What Will Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Do?

The mobile processor manufacturing companies are in a cold war and I talked about this many times before. The main players here are Nvidia and Qualcomm. Last year it was about Tegra 3 vs Snapdragon S4 Pro. Now it’s about Tegra 4 vs Snapdragon 600. Current winner is Tragra 4, but for how long?

We are just few months away to witness the mighty Snapdragon 800 processor. By next month it will start the mass production and by end of 2013 it will come to market wrapped up in many Smartphone and Tablets. Yeah, it will take the crown away from Nvidia Tegra 4 for sure and lots more. Let’s take a look.

soc-cold-war-what-will-qualcomm-snapdragon-800-do-5746125

Inside Snapdragon 800

Snapdragon 800 chip is going to come with many brand new technologies and components.

CPU: Up to 2.3 GHz // Quad Core // Krait 400

GPU: Adreno 330

RAM: Up to 4 GB // LPDDR3 (12.8 GB/s)

We have already seen LPDDR3 RAM up to 2 GB. But we are going to see 2.3 GHz clock speed for the first time on brand new Krait 400 architecture. Adrino 330 GPU is expected to have 50% better graphic performance than Adreno 320. No further explanation needed. This is going to be THE beast of SoC.

Benchmark Prediction

We have already seen benchmark results of Snapdragon 600 in HTC One.

Snapdragon 600

Quadrant: ~12500

An Tu Tu: ~24600

GL Benchmark (Egypt HD, Off-screen, 1080p): 34 fps

Expected benchmark in Snapdragon 800

Overall performance of Snapdragon 800 is expected to be 50% higher. Based on that, we can predict benchmark results as below.

Quadrant: ~18500

An Tu Tu: ~35000

GL Benchmark (Egypt HD, Off-screen, 1080p): ~60 fps

Enabling Features

The next question, what is Snapdragon 800 going to do with this power? Qualcomm has some good plan for that as well.

4K Content

4K content was always a dream for mobile devices. With Snapdragon 800 phones and tablets will be able to have 4K displays with 3840 × 2160 px resolution for UHD video playback. Not just that, 4K standard will extend to content creation as well. Mobile devices will be able to handle 4K cameras capable of recording HDR videos, boost photography up to 7 FPS etc.

Gaming

Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330 GPU that comes with it would be exciting news for gamers. It will be powerful than Apple iPad 4 and even Nvidia Tegra 4’s 72 core GPU. 1080p @ 60 FPS gaming would be a great experience on a mobile device. We are talking about console quality graphic in a mobile device. This might replace TV consoles down the time.

Android Operations

I was talking about Android Lag before. Due to the architectural issues Android need more hardware power to be as smooth as iOS. But with this level of processors there won’t be any measurable Android lag. Overall OS operations, UI transitions and touch responsiveness would be smooth like never before.

Finally

Still we don’t know the first device to come out with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Some rumors say that it’s going to be Nexus 5 manufactured by LG. It’s expected to hit the market by the end of year 2013.

I think the best utilization of Snapdragon 800 would be in a Tablet. Maybe we will be able to witness such in next generation of full size Nexus tablets.

I’m keeping my eyes open for update. Stay in touch.

How to Detect Fake USB Flash Drives?

When you go to eBay there are tons of USB flash drives with huge capacity for unbelievable prices. You can buy them and get it delivered for free. But after couple of weeks or maybe months of usage, you may figure out that they don’t have the capacity as described in the spec.

Those cheap USB drive sellers usually modify the file system to fake the capacity. If you have an unbelievably cheap 32 GB flash driver, it could be actually a 4 GB or 2 GB one. But, how to detect the actual capacity of a Flash drive? Here we go with the solution.

how-to-detect-fake-usb-flash-drives-6660011

Test Actual Capacity and Speed

  • Download this piece of software. You don’t have to install it, just run it.
  • Change the language to English.

how-to-detect-fake-usb-flash-drives-main-4221519

  • Click on select target and locate the drive you need to test.
  • It’s recommend to test “All available space” (Current free space in the drive)
  • If you can format the drive before the test, it will be more accurate.
  • Then click on “Write + Verify”.
  • It will open a new window and start the testing process. There you can see the read/write speed of the drive as well.

how-to-detect-fake-usb-flash-drives-progress-4286073

  • Here it will write a file in to free space of the drive and read it back to verify.
  • Finally you can see the results. If there are no errors you flash drive is good.

This is a very simple tool, but comes in handy to check the originality of USB drives. You can use this to verify the capacity and speed of HDD as well.

One major problem I found in this tool is, it’s not erasing the test file after verification. So you have to manually remove it. You can easily identify it in the detailed view as H2W File.
